Turning Tragedy into Strength

At the Tony Awards this past Sunday evening, Frank Langella, when accepting his award, and reflecting upon the horrific tragedy in Orlando the previous night, said the following:
“When something bad happens we have three choices – we let it define us, we let it destroy us or we let it strengthen us. Today in Orlando we had a hideous dose of reality. I urge you to be strong …
Although Mr. Langella’s statement was particularly poignant in light of this unimaginable event in our country’s history, his words are equally applicable to any devastating event that alters the course of one’s life.
I join with the rest of our nation in expressing our heartfelt sympathy and support to the victims, their friends and their families. And as Frank Langella concluded: “We will be with you every step of the way.”
As a footnote, the photo above is the infamous Lion of Lucerne, fittingly weeping for Swiss mercenaries who lost their lives during the French Revolution. Above the monument, the translation of the Latin inscription says, “To the loyalty and bravery of the Swiss.”
